The benefits of green tea.

Did you know that you can prolong your life simply choosing your daily drinks wisely? People in our modern society don’t pay very much attention to historical facts and completely ignorant about old traditions, especially when it comes to healthy eating and drinking. I am exceedingly surprised how the younger generation is thoughtlessly adapting every new way of living without questioning it and is completely ignoring old proven traditional medicine. As the cliché goes, a parent’s life should still be a great royal model for their kids, but nowadays it isn’t.

Humankind had been existing on our planet for the last four thousand years, while modern medical treatment came into our lives 50 years ago. But still, not all nations have abandoned the old proven traditions. Chinese have been using green tea as a treatment for everything from headache to depression since ancient times. Today, modern cogent scientific research has proven the benefits of green tea, such as reducing the risk of cancer, lowering total cholesterol levels, and preventing rheumatoid arthritis, cardiovascular disease, and infection. Many people are using the bitter taste of green tea as a pretext for not drinking it. Bitterness is a result of poor preparation, and in addition, you have a lot of tastes to choose from, but you need to bring yourself into the magical world of “Teavana” where you can find the flavor you like.

There are different kinds of green tea which I would recommend. My favorite is ”Sencha.” The name comes from the way this tea was originally drunk.

The leaves are first steamed and then hand-rubbed and dried. This is the most popular kind of tea and its use is wide-spread in China and Japan. This tea contains of a high percentage of caffeine, tannin, and well-balanced vitamins. It is particularly rich in vitamin C, -because of the way it grows and is treated during harvest. I love “Sencha” for its aroma, taste, noticeable energy, and the tranquility that I experience when I drink this tea.

It is very important to follow the brewing instructions for each tea; otherwise it might be too bitter. You need to heat water to 175F and brew the tea for 1 or 2 minutes, depending on the tea. Water boils at 200F; and therefore it can be tricky to achieve the right temperature. I usually put two pieces of ice in a strainer on the top of the tea which diminishes the affect of boiled water.

So start drinking green tea now and enjoy the benefits of this universally acknowledged drink!
